FAMILY HISTORY

A map of Northern Lanarkshire, showing towns in the great Lanarkshire coalfields, and the old parish boundaries. Some of our earliest McKay family records emerged in and around Airdrie, New Monkland, while the Craig family had its roots in Blantyre and Rutherglen. The Šugžda family had left Lithuania and arrived in Bellshill by 1903 — seven years later they moved to Bothwellhaugh. Extended family members of all these branches drifted in and out of North Lanarkshire over time, and some of the Galt family moved to the Hamilton district.
